Estate Jewelry

What Is Estate Jewelry?

All jewelry that is not brand new is considered estate jewelry, other terms you may hear are vintage and antique. The term estate encompasses all second-hand jewelry, regardless of whether it could be defined as antique or vintage. Estate is usually limited/used to describe pieces that were made within the last 30 years. In most cases estate jewelry selections often contain a large variety of origin and age, occasionally you may find pieces marked as estate that look much older than 30 years, inquire to verify the exact age they may be vintage or antique, where they are not new, they fall into the estate selection as well.

What About Antique and Vintage Jewelry?

Antique jewelry and vintage jewelry are defined by when the item was made. For example, Vintage jewelry must be at least 20-30 years old before it can be considered vintage. And antique jewelry must be at least 100 years old. Sometimes the use of the terms “vintage” or “estate” can be misleading, so it is very important to understand these terms and how they should be used to avoid any disappointment. Sometimes styles and trends repeat themselves, so it takes a lot of finesse and education to date them correctly. We are always more than happy to answer any questions you may have on our selection of jewelry, so don’t hesitate to ask if you see something you want to know more about.
